To find pin 1 of a twisted pair connector (WE8W 8 pin modular), hold a connector with the keytab down and the contacts up while looking at the back of the connector where the wire will be inserted. In this position, pin 1 is on the left.

To make a crossover cable (for use between 2 computers without a hub), swap the Tx and Rx pairs - orange and green - 1,2 and 3,6 on one end of the cable. (So one end of the cable will be wired according to the chart at the left, and the other end will be wired according to the standard chart at the top of the page.)
